Spookathon 2019

I'm participating in Spookathon 2019! It's hosted by Kayla from BooksandLala and runs from October 14 - 20.

There are challenges for this one, but nothing is mandatory so do as many or as few as you like.

challenges
*read a thriller
*read a book with red on the cover
*read a book with a spooky word in the title - Down Among The Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
*read a book with a spooky setting
*read something you wouldn't normally read - Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell (graphic novel)

Follow via Twitter @thespookathon

And now these are the books I'm hoping to work through:

I might switch it up, but pretty sure these will be the books I use for the challenges. Wish me luck!

Gilmore Girls Readathon

So I haven't blogged much in a while, but I was looking around at some readathons to try and get back into reading and blogging. I found a ton of amazing ones but the first one that I am 100% committed to is: GILMOREATHON! How could I pass up such a great readathon and the prompts are amazing. Follow via Twitter & Instagram

I'm telling you know that my TBR might change as I have some books on hold at the library and if they arrive in the next few days then that will alter everything, but for now this is what I plan to read for the prompts.

Anne of Avonlea by LM Montgomery - School setting & Next in series
Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman - mother/daughter
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng - Asian author/Asian rep
The Cake Therapist by Judith Fertig - Food
Kiss Me in Paris by Catherine Rider - Fall/Winter

Still trying to figure out: Complicated Love Interest... HIT ME UP WITH SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!

I'm trying to read books from my own shelves, but if my library books come in then I might switch a few:
-Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks in for the fall/winter prompt
-Down Among The Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire for School setting/Next in series

UPDATE: The two books that I was able to complete were Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman & The Cake Therapist by Judith Fertig. I had planned to fit so much reading time in, but then my little girl got sick and we spent a few days snuggling watching shows instead. Loved this readathon and hope to try again next year!

And I've just recently read Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham, so I don't need to do the group read. I rate it 4 stars and listened to the audiobook - highly recommend giving it a listen.

ThrillerAThon Wrap Up

Well I did not follow my original TBR for ThrillerAThon because half of the books I requested from the library did not come in and I didn't end up with as much reading time in the evenings as I would have liked since my toddler was having a crap week and needing a lot more time settling to sleep each night. But I am happy with what I was able to finish regardless of my setbacks.

Here is my BINGO card and I was able to get at least one line though I was hoping for a full card and if I had been able to read two more books that would have happened. There's always next time. thrillers are my jam so I'll be excited to do this readathon again.

The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan
Bones on Ice by Kathy Reichs
There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins

How did you do? Did you participate too? What books did you end up reading?

Thrillerathon TBR 2019

Yet another readathon that I'm participating in this year. It seems to be the year of readathons for me. There's a first for everything and I'm really enjoying the different ones I've found this year.

ThrillerAThon is right up my alley. I seem to read the most books from this genre. A lot of domestic thrillers, but overall mystery/thriller/creepy books.

You can find more details about ThrillerAThon via Twitter, Youtube (Harriet, Victoria and Nicole).

The readathon runs from August 19 - 26 and there is a BINGO card you can participate using or just the individual challenges. There are no rules to this one and even just reading one book during the week counts!

I plan to read as many as I can, so here are some that are on my tentative TBR.

1) Sweetpea by C.J. Skuse (A HOST'S FAV THRILLER) - going to borrow from library
2) The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan - (CREEPY COVER & NEW TO ME AUTHOR) borrowed from library
3) The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (SHORTEST THRILLER & NEW TO ME AUTHOR) - own a copy
4) Darkhouse by Karina Halle (OLDEST) - it's actually more horror than thriller
5) The Never List by Koethi Zan (MOST ANTICIPATED) - borrow from my sister
6) Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica (AUTHOR I'VE READ) - borrow from library
7) Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson (NEWEST & TROPE) - hoping to borrow from library

I highly doubt that I will be able to read them all, but hoping to at least complete a line or two minimum. We'll see how much I get through. Plus things could change at the last minute TBR wise as they sometimes do.

Are you participating in ThrillerAThon? What are your goals? Whats on your TBR?

The Reading Rush 2019 Wrap-Up

Here are all the books I ended up reading during the Reading Rush week.

Here are the challenges:
1) Read a book with purple on the cover.
2) Read a book in the same spot the entire time.3) Read a book you meant to read last year.
4) Read and author's first book.
5) Read a book with a non-human main character.
6) Pick a book that has five or more words in the title.
7) Read and watch a book to movie adaptation.
BONUS: Read 7 books!

And this was my TBR for The Reading Rush!

And here is what I actually read:

Not my original plan, but I hit all the marks with less books!
The Wind in the Willows = Book with non-human main character
The Mermaid's Voice Returns in This One = purple cover, more than 5 words in title, read in same spot (lunchroom @ work)
The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender = author's first book
Coraline = book meant to read last year & book to movie adaptation

How did you do? Did you complete them all or at least the ones you were most excited about?

Jumping Back In with the 7 in 7 Readathon!

Okay, after much thought, I'm going to keep blogging. Just not paying for my domain name any longer... it will expire shortly, so I will need to update a lot of links and the like, but I'm happy to still be around.

I'll be editing my blog, fixing links and such over the next little while and catching up on writing reviews for the books I have been reading. I'm ahead of schedule for my goal of 60 books for the year.

And to get in gear for continuing on my blogging experience, I've decided to participate in the 7 in 7 Readathon hosted by & on Twitter/YouTube. The goal is: READ 7 THINGS IN 7 DAYS!! And it runs from  July 23rd  (today) - 29th. (I found this readathon via booksandlala on your YouTube channel).

There are some challenges if you want to do them:
1. (As always) read 7 things in 7 days
2. Read something with yellow on it
3. Read something outside your comfort zone
4. Read something that takes place outside or you can read something while outside
5. Read something that starts with your first initial
6. Read something and then make a meal/drink/something edible that matches the book OR read a book based off your favourite meal/drink
7. Read something that takes place somewhere that resembles your home

Mostly, I'm just going to try to read 7 things. This will hopefully be possible since I am on vacation from now until August 6th! I am home with our two year old and we will be traveling up north to visit family for a few days near the end of this readathon (maybe an audiobook or two will happen during this time).

Here is my tentative list of books to choose from:

Rebel with a Cupcake by Anna Mainwaring
Summer Constellations by Alisha Sevigny
Kiss Me in New York by Catherine Rider
Kiss Me in Paris by Catherine Rider
Through The Woods by Emily Carroll (this will be a reread so I can finally write my thoughts)
Me and Me by Alice Kuipers
Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill (this is an audiobook I had on hold that just came in)

Alternates:
Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry
The Lost Causes by Alyssa Embree Schwartz & Jessica Koosed Etting
Sadie by Courtney Summers

Will you be participating? What do you plan to read?

READ-EH-THON | A Canadian Inspired Read-A-Thon

Okay so my first major thing I'm going to try to help me get back into blogging is a read-a-thon, but not just any read-a-thon.... it's the READ-EH-THON hosted by Lala, Ashley, Natasha, Zoe and Joce.

I found out about it via BooksandLala YouTube channel.

goal: Read Canadian books/ authors challenges

• Read a book with red on the cover  (book 2)
• Read a book by a Canadian woman  (book 1)
• Read a book with "E" and "H" in the title  (both books)
• Read a book by an indigenous author
• Read a book set in a province you've never visited  (book 1)

Will you be participating? What books are on your Canadian TBR?

Dewey's 24-Hour Read-A-Thon Updates

So here are my updates on my read-a-thon day. Considering my hubby planned a surprise for me, I haven't gotten much reading done today. I have almost finished an audio book and participated in a few challenges though.

Hour 0 - opening meme
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Canada!
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Landline by Rainbow Rowell
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I haven't decided on snacks yet today. So say tuned!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I'm Chrystal, a thirty-something, eclectic book lover, notorious list maker and wannabe photographer.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? First time to this rodeo. I've seen it around many times, but finally decided to participate. Sadly, my hubby surprised me with an impromptu drive today, so looks like not much reading to be done for a big part of the day. I'm looking forward to checking off and audio book from my pile and since I switched up my pile at the last minute, I'm hoping to finish the review book I'm halfway through (Where They Found Her by Kimberly McCreight).

new pile for today

Hour 1 -Go!
Listened to the first disc of Landline. Hubby took me on a day trip, so audiobook it is!

Hour 2 through 7 - more reading
Listened to disc 2-5 on the rest of the trip. Made some fun pit stops along the way and found some awesome places to visit this summer!

Hour 8 - Book Spine Poetry
Since I'm home now, I can do a mini challenge. This one was fun!

Hour 9 through 11 - Switch up
Flipped over to my review book while Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2 is playing in the background.

Hour 12 - update
1. What are you reading right now? Where They Found Her by Kimberly McCreight
2. How many books have you read so far? None completed, but audiobook is mostly done and I'm getting through my review book so that's something considering I've been away most of the day.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Through The Woods by Emily Carroll (should be an easy read as it's a graphic novel type book).
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Road trip! Audiobook.
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? Well I'd like to have participated more today, but life got in the way. I think I was surprised at all of the fun challenges there are. :) Nice to break up the reading time I suppose.

Hour 13 through 18 - Those books are going down.
I did complete reading Through The Woods by Emily Carroll - so creepy! And I listened to the rest of Landlines by Rainbow Rowell.

Hour 19 - Shelfie

Hour 20 through 24 - that's all folks!
I'm not going to fill out the end of event meme, because I didn't get to participate as much as I had hoped. I will however participate again when I can give it my all! Loved the challenges, cheerleaders and great job by the hosts!

My First Read-a-thon | Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-thon

Date of Read-a-thon: APRIL 25, 2015

This will be my first time doing a read-a-thon. I've seen Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-thon before, but just didn't take the time to try it. I have quite a few books that I need to get to, but I'm limiting myself to two books and one audiobook. My reading plans never go as planned, but I'm hoping with a small pile that I can get through them all.
