Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful.”

Deserted Island with Melissa from Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf

Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams  of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a  deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some  are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your favourite authors and bloggers would pick. Click here if you would like to participate.
Melissa Eclectic BookshelfI'm excited to welcome Melissa to be a part of the Deserted Island feature here on my blog. Melissa is the blogger over at Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf. I love her Cat Thursday posts! We are both big cat lovers and book lovers. And well I love her reason for picking The Bible as one of her books... it's pretty much the same reasons I would read it through too.

5 books:

1. The Complete Works of Shakespeare -  It would give me quite a bit of reading and re-reading time and I've always felt that I should read more of The Bard.
2.  The Complete Sherlock Holmes - I've loved Holmes since I was a child and would love the time to read and reread all the stories.
3.  The Bible - I'm not really religious, but I've always thought that it would be great to have read the whole Bible. Not only would I be able to kick some butt on Jeopardy...but I'd be much more educated during discussions...assuming I escape the island!
4.  SAS Survival Handbook - When not escaping from my situation, I'll need help dealing with it!
5. A Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants - I'd need to know what I could safely eat!

5 Items:

1. A Tent - I love nature...but I need a little bit of separation to feel safe...plus it would give me plenty of time to build a shelter
2. A Sleeping bag - No matter how hot it is...I can't sleep without heavy blankets...and I think sleep will be crucial to survival
3. A Swiss Army Knife - Self explanatory
4. BlastMatch Fire Starter - I probably won't have anything to cook (What does a vegetarian need to cook on an island?) but fire will be crucial for surviving cold nights, chasing off unwelcome critters, and of course...reading after the sun sets.
5. A First Aid kit - last thing I need to to die from a scratch due to lack of antibiotics! Plus I also get horrid headaches and would need medicine with me.

You can find Melissa all over the web: Blog | Goodreads | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest | Bloglovin' | Tumblr

Thanks Melissa!

Deserted Island with Andrea from Reading Lark

Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams  of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a  deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some  are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your favourite authors and bloggers would pick. Click here if you would like to participate.
Reading LarkAndrea from Reading Lark is stranded on my Deserted Island this week. Read below to see what books she thinks are a must and what items she thinks will be handy! Thanks Andrea for participating.

1) If you were suck on a deserted island, what five books would you want with you and why?
- North and South by John Jakes - It's one of my favorites and its length means that it would last me awhile.
- Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer - This is another favorite that I could read over and over.
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - I have been meaning to read this one, but something always gets in the way. I'd certainly have time to read it on a deserted island.
- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - My all time favorite - 'nuff said
- Beauty Queens by Libba Bray - It's hilarious and gives survival advice. If beauty queens can do it, I can too, right?!?!

2) Same question, but what five items would you want and why?
- Tent: I'm not really a suffer through the elements sort of girl.
- Bug Repellant: I dislike bugs almost as much as the elements.
- Hammock: I would want to be comfy while I read my five books and waited for rescue.
- Knife: This would be helpful in multiple situations for protection, food gathering, and keeping the vegetation at bay.
- Sunscreen: Being stranded is no reason to not protect yourself from UV rays.

This was fun. Thanks for thinking of me!

Deserted Island with Chrys Fey

Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams  of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a  deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some  are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your favourite authors and bloggers would pick. Click here if you would like to participate.
This week Chrys Fey is here to let us know all about her new book, Hurricane Crimes, and to share her Deserted Island picks with us.... some might come in handy in a hurricane too.

1) What five books would you want if stuck on a Deserted Island, and why?
  • SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea by John Lofty Wiseman . . . for obvious survival tip reasons.
  • The Blah Story by Nigel Tomm because it’s 17, 868 pages long and will take me forever to read.
  • Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I adore the movie but I haven’t actually read the book yet.
  • The Host by Stephenie Meyer because it’s a decent length and I could read it over and over again.
  • Naked in Death by J.D. Robb so I can get my Roarke fix. ;)

2) What five items would you want, and why?
  • A fishing pole so I won’t have to go all Tom Hanks with a sharpened stick like he did on Cast Away.
  • Emergency flint fire starters so I won’t hurt my hand trying to light a fire . . . like Tom Hanks on Cast Away.
  • A raft so I won’t have to build one . . . like Tom Hanks on Cast Away.
  • A friend so I won’t start talking to volleyballs or coconuts . . . like Tom Hanks on Cast Away.
  • Flares so I can attract ships and planes and not be stranded for Four years . . . like Tom Hanks on Cast Away.

*Hurricane Crimes is a short story.*

After her car breaks down, Beth Kennedy is forced to stay in Florida, the target of Hurricane Sabrina. She stocks up supplies, boards up windows, and hunkers down to wait out the storm, but her plan unravels when she witnesses a car accident. Risking her life, she braves the winds to save the driver. Just when she believes they are safe, she finds out the man she saved could possibly be more dangerous than the severe weather.

Donovan Goldwyn only wanted to hide from the police, but the hurricane shoved his car into a tree. Now he's trapped with a beautiful woman while the evidence that can prove his innocence to a brutal crime is out there for anyone to find.

As Hurricane Sabrina wreaks havoc, Beth has no other choice but to trust Donovan to stay alive. But will she survive, or will she become another hurricane crime?

EXCERPT
On the television set, which was fighting to stay alive, was breaking news. She caught bits and pieces of it as she emptied the bowl of blood-tainted water and threw out the cloth. It was about a high-speed chase that had occurred about a half-hour ago. Beth shook her head. Apparently, Donovan wasn’t the only idiot driving around during a hurricane.
She went back into the living room and began replacing all the medical supplies into the first-aid kit. Behind her, a reporter was explaining that the driver of the car was believed to be a murder suspect.
“The name of the—”
The lights flashed, prompting Beth to snatch up her flashlight.
“Donovan Goldwyn.”
Her fingers went cold around the plastic tube as ice frosted her veins. She straightened her spine and turned stiffly to the television, her heart wasn’t beating in her chest. On the screen was the picture of the man who was right now changing in her bedroom. Above it was a caption in bold letters that read—SUSPECT.
She gripped the flashlight in her frozen fingers. Her heart thudded fearfully. She stared into the immobilized violet eyes through the glass.
“Oh my god,” she gasped.
She had brought a murderer into her home!

About the Author:
Chrys Fey’s debut, Hurricane Crimes, was published by The Wild Rose Press. Mid 2014, she will be coming out with her second romantic-suspense eBook, 30 Seconds. She created the blog Write with Fey to offer aspiring writers advice and inspiration. She lives in Florida where she is ready to battle the next hurricane that comes her way.

Deserted Island with Ashley of Nose Graze

Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams  of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a  deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some  are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your favourite authors and bloggers would pick. Click here if you would like to participate.
Nose Graze - Book reviews & blog tipsI have been spending a lot of time checking out the posts at Nose Graze lately, that I decided I should ask Ashely if she would like to participate in Deserted Island. And she said YES! I am thrilled because I absolutely love everything she posts on her blog.
So without further ado, here are Ashley's Deserted Island picks!

What five books would you want with you if ever on a Deserted Island, and why?

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
3. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Price
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
5. Parallel by Lauren Miller

I know choosing Harry Potter is probably so cliché, but it makes the most sense for me!  Harry Potter is the one series that I can read again and again, and never get tired of it.  Plus, the books are all very long, so they would keep me occupied for a long time.  (I don't like the first 3 books much, which is why I didn't include those.)  Then for my fifth book, I felt like I had to choose a standalone because I would be annoyed if I just got one book from a duology/trilogy.  I went with Parallel by Lauren Miller because it was the first standalone I thought of that totally rocked my world!  Parallel universes--awesome!

What five items would you want, and why?

1. A swiss army knife - I think this is pretty self explanatory!  I'm sure it would come in handy for building my shelter, hunting, and self defense!  A must-have.
2. Sleeping bag - It's important to be warm and snuggly at night.  I think I could make do without a tent, but a sleeping bag is super important to keep warm. Plus I value quality sleep!
3. First aid kid - I'm not going to survive long if I get injured and have nothing to help.
4. A dragon!  Can I pick a dragon?  I want one!  It would be useful for transportation, starting fires, cooking food, and even hunting.  Hopefully it wouldn't turn around and decide to eat me, but we could cross that bridge when we come to it.
5. My fiancé, Coding God!  I don't think I could survive without him -- deserted island or no. ;)  (I hope he don't mind me calling him an "item" hehehe.)

Romance Week Interview: Jessica Scott

I'd like to welcome author Jessica Scott to Snowdrop Dreams of Books and ROMANCE WEEK! I had the opportunity to interview Jessica about writing romance novels and she let us have a sneak peek at her latest WIP!

What drew you to writing Romance to begin with?

I had a battalion commander once tell me that everything in life is about relationships. Romance is ultimately about relationships so it's a natural fit. Plus, I really wanted to write stories that would challenge people, but also fit into conceptions of what readers expected, you know?

Would you ever write outside of Romance? If so, what genres?  If no, why not?

I think I'd love to write something like Tomb Raider or Raiders of the Lost Ark. I love the idea of looking for lost civilizations and artifacts. Right now, though, I'm focusing on the Coming Home series.

If Hollywood optioned All For You into a movie, who would play the lead characters?

You know I honestly cannot answer that. I'd love to see Reese Witherspoon play Emily but I have absolutely no mental image of who could play Reza. He's such a strong picture in my head that I haven't seen him looking back at me from any actor, if that makes sense.

If you could hop into any romance novel, what would it be?

Don't laugh but Johanna Lindsey's Warrior's Woman. I'm a Star Wars geek so anything that puts me into space travel would be so awesome.

What are you writing at the moment?  Can you give us a sneak peek into your current WIP

Here's a sneak peak at First Sarn't Sorren's book that I'm working on now.
Headlights flooded the living room a few minutes later. She opened the door, surprised to see him in civilian clothes. Casual jeans and a button down shirt, cuffed at the wrists.
She smiled as he approached thinking that maybe that second glass of wine hadn’t been such a good idea. It made her feel loose and warm as he walked toward her. He looked down at her, his eyes warm and dark. “Why are you smiling?” he asked gently.
“I keep forgetting how big you are.” She lifted the glass of wine to her lips. It was sparkling and sweet on her tongue.
He watched her every movement and Melanie felt something she hadn’t felt in the war zone that her home had become. She felt alive. Aware of the heat in her veins, the tightness of her skin.
It was all an illusion. An illusion that started with the man in her foyer and would end with her heart breaking again.
Because Gale Sorren was a soldier. And that meant that anyone in his life always came second to the army.
She knew that and despite being glad he’d come tonight, the reality of what she was doing slapped at her.
It was a mistake to let that fantasy take hold. A terrible mistake.
Gale wouldn’t stick around long enough to convince her it was real. So why get wrapped up in the fantasy, no matter how nice it was thrumming through her veins at that moment?

Romance Week Giveaway with K.A. Tucker!

Okay this next Romance Week special is a giveaway from a Canadian author that I adore. I've read her debut novel Ten Tiny Breaths and loved it so much (and I'm all set to read One Tiny Lie and Four Seconds To Lose shortly). I hope you are all as excited as I am that KA TUCKER has offered up an amazing giveaway for Romance Week!

If you hadn't heard recently, KA Tucker did a really exciting cover reveal for her fourth book in the Ten Tiny Breaths Series. It's called Five Ways To Fall and was revealed on February 5th!

Here's a little info on the books in the series:
TEN TINY BREATHS - Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel them. Love them.
Four years ago Kacey Cleary’s life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, holding her boyfriend’s lifeless hand and listening to her mother take her last breath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, twenty year old Kacey and her fifteen year old sister Livie escape Grand Rapids, Michigan to start over in Miami. Struggling to make ends meet, Kacey needs to figure out how to get by. But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle anything—anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D. Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes, deep dimples, and perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable and Trent is determined to find a way into Kacey’s guarded heart—even if it means that an explosive secret could shatter both their worlds.
ONE TINY LIE - Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fit Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.
FOUR SECONDS TO LOSE - When a gorgeous young dancer walks through his door, a strip club owner must decide whether to follow his rules or his heart in the third novel by the author of One Tiny Lie and Ten Tiny Breaths. Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.

Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can't get distracted by romance.

Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.
FIVE WAYS TO FALL - Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths, One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…
