Deserted Island with author Michael A Rothman & GIVEAWAY!

Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams  of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five  other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a  deserted island and why they chose them. As a special stop this week, Deserted Island has been hosted on a Friday to coincide with a blog tour stop that I am participating in for Michael A Rothman, author of the Heirs of Prophecy Series. So I hope that you all enjoy Michael's choices for his deserted island stay and that you will check out the giveaway at the end of the post (it's tour wide).

1. A shovel - With a shovel, you might be able to dig for water, unearth root vegetables, or otherwise prepare soil for planting. I’d presume the shovel would be much more hardy than my fingertips as I might have need for those.
2. Large bag of seeds - Preparing myself for the long haul, a bag of seeds for planting would be a very convenient thing. Suddenly this author might find himself in a situation where he would practice his gardening skills, and this would be a requisite component of such an activity.
3. Significant amounts of plastic wrap - Oddly enough, I can’t depend on running water, but I presume that the island is surrounded by salt water. So with a sufficient supply of plastic wrap, I could collect collect fresh water via evaportation. All I would need is salt water, some sticks, sand and plastic wrap. I presume the salt water, sticks, and sand are otherwise easily accessible.
4. Chickens - Eggs! Chickens are utterly stupid creatures, having grown up around some – but they are very capable of sustaining themselves and seem to spontaneously combust with eggs. With that in mind, you might find this author on an island full of poultry at some point. Oh, and eating the occasional chicken isn’t a bad thing either.
5. Tinderbox - Despite all of the struggling evidenced by shows like survivor, this author has actually made fire from two pieces of wood. Let’s just say I would much rather have flint and steel as my common method of starting a fire.

As to the five books, I am not sure there is just five I would take, nor would it be something I haven’t read yet or one which was an old favorite. So let’s just say these would be some of the titles that I think are probably things I should have read one way or another.

1. The Bible -Going with the old saying that says, “there are no atheists in a foxhole” - I suppose if I am stuck on an island, and left to my own devices, one might find continued solace in a higher being. Reading the bible can never be wrong, can it? 
2. Huckleberry Finn -A classic that I enjoyed as a child and haven’t read in ages.
3. War and Peace -Tolstoy’s classic – never read it, but I would hope by the time I finished reading it, I was rescued!
4. The Hobbit -The one that started it all for me in the Fantasy genre
5. Interview with a Vampire -Yes – I know, this one probably surprises most people who know me. I’ve always had a yen for Anne Rice’s novels. And no, I never read Twilight, and don’t have any near term plans on it. Anne is my girl for writing about the vampires – more so even than Bram.
