Author Lori Strongin has just recently released Bite Me and to help her get the word out about her humorous paranormal story, I've invited Lori to the blog for an interview. Thank you for coming by Lori, I'm really looking forward to reading your book this month.
1) Describe your book twitter-style (using 140 characters or less).
Take one totally screwed werewolf, a vegetarian vampire, and the psycho who wants to kill them both.
2) What inspired you to write Bite Me? How did you come up with the idea for the story?
It actually came from a conversation at writing group one night about genre clichés, specifically vampires and crosses. Me, being the smart ass that I am, asked, “Well, what if my vampire is Jewish?” And while my question met that special kind of uncomfortable silence usually associated with epic!fail, it spawned a series of short stories that were fairly well received by readers. When one person suggested I give these characters their own novel, I knew it was a challenge I had to accept. And so Bite Me was born.
3) Is there an interesting story behind the name Talbot?
You know, you are the first person to catch that! Four for you, Glenn Coco, four for you. Talbot Osbourne, my werewolf character, was named for Larry Talbot, the original Wolf Man from the 1941 movie. Just my little nod to the genre!
4) Every Thursday I host Deserted Island, where authors and bloggers tell me their top five books and five items they would want with them on a deserted island, what would you pick?
Just five books??? Ugh, that's hard. Okay, definitely Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (it's my all time favorite). Then, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, the Collected Works of Edgar Allen Poe, and the Snow White, Blood Red anthology by Ellen Datlow.
And as for items, an industrial-sized zippo lighter with dual fuel cell, a crossbow with full quiver for food and protection, (surprisingly, I'm a fairly decent shot), a tent, a Brita water filter, and some kind of radio that can pick up satellite frequency because without music to fill awkward silences, I'm a wreck.
5) What is at the top of your wish list right now?
5) What is at the top of your wish list right now?
Hmm, considering the weekend I just had, a functioning kidney. Yup, I totally missed my own book launch because of a nasty little genetic condition I have that requires surgery every time it chooses to act up. But at least I get some extra writing time during those recovery periods!
I am loving your choices for books for the deserted island question and knowing where the name Talbot came from. I do hope that you are recovering from your recent health scare and wish you all the best with Bite Me. Thank you for stopping by!
