Wednesday—Unexpected Treasure

Share a book or genre you tried due to the influence of another blogger.  What made you cave in to try something new and what was the experience like?

---------------------------------

So far I have the same books I normally would pick up, but I did learn that there are names for genres or types of books I have been reading along that I didn't know had a NAME/GENRE.

Like dystopian genre - Dystopia is the vision of a society in which conditions of life are miserable and characterized by poverty, oppression, war, violence, disease, pollution, nuclear fallout and/or the abridgement of human rights, resulting in widespread unhappiness, suffering, and other kinds of pain. (Source: Wikipedia)

I really didn't know that many of the books on my TBR list or that I have already read fell into this category. So I guess I would say that is the newest thing that I have found by blogging, since I have only been blogging for a short time.

  1. I love (maybe that's not the right word) dystopian novels.

  2. I really do think Dystopian novels seem to be on the rise! New trend maybe? I really don't mind because most of the ones I've read have turned out to be really good! :)

  5. I have always been into dystopian novels. For some reason, every dystopian novel that I've read is good. (i.e. The Hunger Games, Uglies, The Handmaid's Tale, The Road, World War Z)... I can just keep going on and on with this one. :) I am a big fan!

  6. YES! Dystopian is the best. My husband was always the ultimate skeptic when it came to YA, but I got him hooked on The Hunger Games and now he'll read anything dystopian. Some favorites: The Chaoes Walking triology, The Forest of Hands and Teeth series, and The Maze Runner.

  7. I'm really liking this new genre! I've only read a few dystopian books but I plan to read a whole lot more. It's a nice change from vampires and werewolves.

Thanks Nely and Katie for the recommendations! I'm going to check them out :)
