First off, this is my first Sarah Morgan book and I will definitely be checking out more by this author. It was a nice break from the other genres I've been reading lately. I love a good contemporary romance.

This story is set over the Christmas holidays in New York during a huge snow storm. Eva is hired to decorate an authors apartment while he is away on a writing retreat to finish his next book. His Grandmother is the one behind this and she "unknowingly" pushes them together by hiring Eva. Lucas actually didn't even leave his apartment - he just said he was so he could be alone over the holidays. They seem to be opposites in every way, except they share one thing in common - dealing with grief. Lucas feels like she is inspiring him to finally write since he was having writers block. But since he resists the tug on his heartstrings, he pushes Eva away. 

The words tumbled past the block that had stopped him working. This was what he'd been waiting for. This feeling that the words were unstoppable, the story pouring onto the page.

I really loved Eva's character with her love for a fairy tale style ideal love. She believes in an HEA for everyone, even while being aware that sometimes it takes a long time to find it and you have to be open to it. She is sweet as sugar and spice and everything nice, but not a pushover and can take care of herself. She can let her emotions get the best of her because she believes the best in everyone and every situation.

Lucas is a jerk at the beginning. He uses his grief to keep people at bay and to let him be a loner. People assume his grief is so deep that he doesn't want to deal with the outside world yet. Eva doesn't take his shit and pushes him to open up and allow himself to heal. His grumpy facade begins to melt because she is such a vibrant and happy person that it starts to rub off on him. He's an idiot for not letting love in when he has the chance and needed to get over his baggage and let himself love again.

I was listening to the song Strings by Shawn Mendes and it reminded me of Lucas in this book. Lucas needs time and he finally realizes that he wants it all and only wants it with Eva. She's not just his good luck charm and inspiration for writing anymore. Here are the lyrics that remind me of them:

Darling I want all the strings attached
I love it when you look at me like that
And you're the only girl that brings me back
'Cause baby I want all the strings attached
It's like always and forever
I won't let a moment pass
And when I'm with you I feel better

Overall, these characters seem to need each other whether they like it or not. And in the true holiday fashion - it takes them time to see it. Eva has great supportive friends and I'd love to read some of their stories. 

Love is a journey. Carry a map.

It's a great love story to read during the upcoming Christmas holidays. There's family, love, and the magic of snow.

P.S. I found it adorable that Eva was afraid of his writing since he wrote crime thrillers that involved creepy and mysterious deaths. She even tries to change part of his story to make it more cheery.
