Apparently having meltdowns and/or secluding yourself from the world is the way to be. Between Portia pretty much have a nervous breakdown over her asshat husband cheating on her and Mr.Vernon her favourite English who is a recluse of the shyest kind, they make quite the pair on a quest that just might change everyone's lives. 

Matthew Quick always writes so much hope into the lives of his broken characters. Each and every character in this book has flaws, some bigger than others, but they are there and he explores them in such amazing and intricate ways.

This book is like the best of rooting for the underdog - you want each and every one of the characters to change and become better people or at least succeed in some way. You want Portia to succeed in helping Mr. Vernon back to the life he once lived and to be the man she looked up to in high school. You want so much for her new romantic relationship to work out. And even more, you want that little metalhead boy to have the life he deserves.

Such an emotional journey especially since love may fail, but you won't know until you give it a shot. I loved that Mr. Vernon taught his classes and made them feel that they could do anything. I hope you'll enjoy his first day once you read it in the book.... where they make paper airplanes just to see if what they think will happen really happens. It shows great strength and understanding to accept how feel about yourself and vow to make a difference.
