When I arrived home tonight, I was super excited to see a parcel on my doorstep (normally delivery people leave me a pick up slip to call them to arrange delivery). I was doing a happy dance for TO DANCE WITH THE DEVIL by CAT ADAMS.
But once I opened the box, I was completely disheartened. The book inside is completely destroyed. It looks as if it was caught up in a machine and mangled. It hurt my heart to see a book like this. It looks like my parcel was damaged, then they re-boxed it and taped the shipping label to it.
EPIC FAIL!
Also, funny enough - there is a National Geographic magazine from December 2012 inside the box addressed to someone else and from a different country. I guess they didn't get their mail at all.
What makes the story even more interesting is that the publisher emailed me to ask if I received this book (an unsolicited book, but the next in a series for a book I reviewed for them) and I advised them I hadn't. Then we determined that it must have gone to my old address as I have moved in the last year (my mail was being redirected, but not anymore). So she happily shipped me another copy to my new address and this was how it arrived. I emailed her to let her know the status of the shipment and will be calling the delivery company about the situation.
Poor book.
Ever have this happen? What is the worst condition you've ever received a book?
Wow. You (or the sender) should definitely make a complaint. I once received a package, opened, with no book inside. I love how the post office/mail person thinks it's okay to delivery a piece of mail that is obviously missing. No note, no nothing.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to make the complaint and I'll be calling them on Monday. Ya, I might not have been so angry if they had at least put a note inside apologizing.
DeleteOh. Looking at this hurts me. I'd definitely make a complaint. Fortunately, I had nothing that bad (yet), just a damaged cover and a tiny (like a millimetre) tear on one page). But it happened that I didn't get a delivery at all twice. I guess I've been quite lucky as far as this is concerned so far.
ReplyDeleteThis is the worst I've ever received. I've had one arrive with a tear in the cover, but it was readable at least. This is destroyed so I cannot read about half of the book. :(
DeleteAhhh, that is horrifying to see that! Imagine if it was a signed copy as a prize or something. *rocks back and forth*
ReplyDeleteNo seriously, though, that is insane... someone definitely needs to answer for that. Thankfully the worst I've had are dented spines or a bit of a bent cover, etc.
I'd be much angrier if it were a prize or signed copy. Publisher sent me a digital copy for review now - no sense in sending it again when I can review the digital copy now.
DeleteI once had an amazon box of books come to me completely destroyed and so was the box! On the box USPS put a we care sticker! Obviously they didn't because my package looking like it fell off a truck and got run over
ReplyDeleteYa this looks like it was stuck in a conveyor belt or something with the markings on it and the way it's torn. :(
DeleteThat is crazy - they still delivered the box that way?
OMG! Epic fail indeed. I would cry if a book arrived like that (and then give it a proper burial lol). I hope you get it all sorted out Chrystal!
ReplyDeletePublisher just sent me a digital copy for review in lieu so I can still read it and review it for them. And I'm going to be calling UPS to report it... hubby says to raise hell.
