I absolutely loved the premise of the book. A wedding and a scandalous murderer - what a great combination. From the very start I knew that this book would be one that I just wouldn't be able to put down.
Mira is exactly the type of girl I like to read about - she is unique in that she has red hair, is not terribly fashionable when Nicholas first meets her and she's extremely smart and passionate. Most girls her age could care less about their education and more about finding a rich husband. I love a great heroine that isn't a part of the norm or the trendy crowd. I think the best leading characters are those who strive to make their own decisions, who let their passions shine through and who stand up for what they believe in.
The situation that Mira finds herself in is an extremely sensitive one, but somehow she accepts her lot and tries to make the best of it. She is determined to learn the truth about her fiancee - is he really a murderer?
The relationship between Mira and Nicholas blossomed when others expected them to falter. I don't even think that the two of them weren't really sure if they could go through with things at the beginning. Funny how emotions and ideals change given the chance to get to know the real person behind the mask.
The biggest intrigue of all was trying to figure out who the murderer really was - was it Nicholas, a random peddler or someone close to the family? I thought I had it figured out, but the twist was pretty good.
I'd like to read more by this author, perhaps a book about Mira's cousin? Maybe we could see where her life leads after everything that happens to the family in this book.
