Reviewing Slump...

I think I am going through a reviewing slump... not a reading slump, but a reviewing one. I have been reading, but have not felt like writing reviews and the ones that I do review feel lackluster. I either need a good book to encourage me to review more often or just to push myself to write better reviews. Or perhaps I should start writing mini-reviews on books that I can't find all the words for.

What do you do when you don't feel like writing reviews? How do you get going again?

  1. Definitely give mini reviews a try. I've been doing that for a few simply because I'm so behind and have no time to write. I have TONS of time to read with my commute to my internship but no desire to sit in front of a computer during the small period of time from when I get home to when I go to bed. There's another blogger (Browsing Bookshelves) who's been doing a mini review compilation post where she writes a paragraph about 4 or 5 books at once. It's something and maybe it'll help kickstart your usual reviews! Good luck :)

    1. Thanks Kaley - I will have to check that blog out and I might just start mini-reviews for a bit. :)

  2. I'm in a reviewing slump at the moment as well so I have no words of advice for you. Just keep plugging at it and hopefully you'll bound back soon. That's what I'm doing. LOL

    1. Good luck to you too. I figure as long as I am reading, the reviews might come later.

  4. I am in a reviewing slump also. I skipped a few reviews of books that I read for myself so I could focus on reading and reviewing arcs. But then I read a few arcs that I didn't enjoy, so I had a hard time writing those reviews. Now I have found myself going back and writing the reviews for the books that I enjoyed - those are so much easier! I have started shortening my reviews also. I know I don't have the greatest reviews ever, but at least I am honest in what I like and don't like about a book.

    1. Sometimes I find it harder to review ARCs because I don't always enjoy the books as much as book I read for fun, so I am being a lot more picky about the books I accept for review. If I wouldn't have grabbed it at the bookstore then I am not reviewing it. I used to accept anything the piqued my interest even a little, but now I think hard about the books before I accept.

I think review length shouldn't matter... it's content that is important. :) Cheers!

  5. I read reviews on other blogs and my own, older reviews. It gives me ideas of what else to talk about and reminds me howmy reviews are uniquely mine. Which is important when everything I write starts to sound the same to me. Sometimes it's just perception and sometimes it's important to remember that I'm still bringing something unique to the discussion.

Hope you get your groove back :)

  6. I have been going through this and I have noticed quite a few other bloggers have too. It makes me feel better, but i haven't started figuring out how to deal with the anxiety I get when I know I am not posting reviews.. or reviews i'm happy with.

  7. I usually aim for a one-sentence review when I don't feel like writing a review post. Then often that one-sentence would lead me to write another and then another. I guess it's not too unmanageable when I coax myself to write just one sentence at a time. Have a great weekend!

    1. That is a great idea! I'll have to try that with my next review! :)

  8. I love mini-reviews! They're easy to write and easy to read. ;) I've started doing mini-reviews whenever I feel like it. Usually for library books/non-review books.

    1. That's a good idea of when to write mini-reviews. I'm going to work on a few this coming week as I have quite a few books that I'd like to do write ups for but have not had the energy to get started. ;)
