Review, Playlist & Giveaway: Greta and the Goblin King by Chloe Jacobs

Great and the Goblin King (Mylena Chronicles #1) - Chloe Jacobs

While trying to save her brother from a witch’s fire four years ago, Greta was thrown in herself, falling through a portal to Mylena, a dangerous world where humans are the enemy and every ogre, ghoul, and goblin has a dark side that comes out with the eclipse.

To survive, Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young goblin king, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her will to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. An ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal, and with the next eclipse mere days away, every bloodthirsty creature in the realm is after her—including Isaac. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...
First off, this book was not what I expected. When I first started I was confused thinking that I had just jumped into the second installment in a series, because the story is told in a bit of a different manner. The back story for Greta is unfolded slowly, but it hints at things that have happened that you haven't learned about yet. So I was a little confused until it started unraveling the past for me. Once I realized it was just the way the author had written the book and not me missing out on a whole other novel, I settled right in and enjoyed the ride.

Great is a great character - very witty and sarcastic at times (which I love in a heroine - gotta be able to hold her own both physically and mentally). She has a very strong  presence and I love that she took on the role of bounty hunter after being stuck in Mylena. After being stuck there for a few years she is worried about losing her humanity as she assimilates into the community of goblins and sprites. I found her character endearing in that she tries so hard to hold onto her human side while hiding it from others.

I found it rather interesting to have the story feature goblins, especially hunky ones. It's a nice change from vampires and werewolves. Isaac, the goblin king, is a love interest for Greta. At first she pushes him away as often as he tries to put the moves on her. She doesn't really trust him at first since he kind of tricked her a little bit when they first met. Little does she know that soon enough the chemistry between them will overpower her will to keep pushing him away just based on principle. Isaac is an interesting character himself, but honestly, the romance wasn't the part of the book that I enjoyed (he seemed possessive at first and thing don't develop the way I thought they would). I truly loved Greta's story, her adventures as an amazing heroine and the actual world of Mylena the most.

"No matter who you are or where you come from, we're the same. We were meant to be together."

I will definitely be picking up the rest of this series as it comes out, because I need to see what happens to Greta, the journey she has been on and continues to follow and also I thoroughly enjoyed Chloe Jacobs writing.

PLAYLIST
I was trying to compile a playlist for this novel, but I only came up with one song that I could pick for this book - hope you enjoy!

GIVEAWAY

About the Author:
Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.
