Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your favourite authors and bloggers would pick. Click here if you would like to participate.
This week I am excited to announce that Lisa Stasse is stopping by with her Deserted Island picks. Lisa Stasse is the author of The Forsaken (my review will be up today). She has been absolutely wonderful to work with and you should totally check her out around the web with the links below.
FIVE BOOKS:
1. US Army Survival Handbook--So this
one is pretty self explanatory, but it's just a guide about how to
survive in the wilderness. I would need it, because I have no clue how
to survive on a deserted island (with no Starbucks and no iPhone) and I
would need some help! Hopefully this book would tell me how to spear
fish and build a shelter and all that good stuff that people always do
in movies!
2. Lord of the Flies--One of my all-time favorite
books, and an inspiration for my debut dystopian novel, The Forsaken.
It's really short, but it
packs a lot of punch. And it would be appropriate reading for a desert
island!
3. Pride & Prejudice--Another of my favorites!
I've probably read this book ten times, but I could read it a hundred
more. I don't think I can ever really get bored with Jane Austen.
4.
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare--Okay, so I guess this
probably counts as more than one book, but it would be great to have on
the island with me. Shakespeare is awesome. This book would keep me
entertained for years.
5.The Magus by John Fowles--One of the
strangest and best novels of all time! I'm still not sure I fully
understand it, but that would be one good reason to re-read it over and
over on the island. It's a fantastic, surreal novel about an elaborate
game that gets played on a teacher in Greece. It's really long with a
ton of great plot twists. I highly recommend reading it if you're in the
mood for something really cool and very
unique.
FIVE ITEMS:
1. Sunglasses
2. Knife
3. Tent
4. Matches
5. Antibiotics
Thanks again for having me do a Deserted Island feature!
