This week Canadian author Rhiannon Paille has been stranded on my Deserted Island and is sharing her thoughts on what five books and five items she would most like to have with her while stuck there. Rhiannon Paille is the author of an amazing new series, The Ferryman and the Flame Series. Without further ado.... Rhiannon Paille!
I want to cheat. That's my first thought when Chrystal asks me to
pick five books and five things I'd bring on a deserted island with me.
Initially
I'm thinking iphone, charger, and the 12 volt charge box which will
last awhile before it dies, giving me infinite access to any books I
want. But then what about my favorite books? They're not on my kindle
and if I'm deserted on a freaking island all I want with me is my
favorite books.
But what if they get wet on the way there? Am I
being teleported to said island? Or parachuted? (I'm afraid of heights
do not make me skydive to this place) or are we going on a canoe with a
figurine of a woman at the helm and are we going to cross through the
mists to get there?
Provided I was smart enough to know about my said
kidnapping, via my awe inspiring psychic skills, and packed my books in
waterproof canisters or plastic here are the five books I would no doubt
have with me.
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (the copy that's signed by the ten members of Straight No Chaser)
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (the UK paperback version, with the really awesome cover)
Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (provided I'm not being
kidnapped prior to July 31st and can get a physical copy of this book)
Alanna by Tamora Pierce (the copy she signed to me, wishing me all the success
in publishing, which I know will now never happen since I've been
stranded on this island.)
Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind (because I like the ending and could reread it a thousand times and never get bored)
As for the things list, this is much tougher. Books I tend to know what I like and what I don't like and because of that choosing great books is never difficult for me. Choosing great things on the other hand is, because are they functional or not? Am I sentimentalist like I am with my books, or do I go for practicality? That in mind here's my list:
A gun with one bullet (because Captain Jack had one and I want one too)
A flare gun (for the off chance I could shoot a plane with it.)
A barrel of rum (that ought to be enough to keep me consistently drunk for a few months)
A flame thrower (for obvious reasons, I can't light a fire to save
my life so I want something that just produces flames automatically)
A barrel of steel leg traps (so I can pretend I'm in one of those saw movies)
I can probably make rope out of grass but I mean my
real saving grace will be to find a fallen tree and use it as a
flotation device as I paddle my way back to the mainland, or at least to
a boat. I realize in doing this I'm going to leave behind my prized
possessions which is fine because Chrystal knows exactly where she
dropped me and she'll go back and retrieve them for me when she finds
out I've made my epic escape.
I'm not descended from vikings for nothing you know?
About the author: (from Goodreads)
*sigh* Same here. I'll keep tweeting it. Perhaps I missed the afternoon crowd today because I couldn't tweet from work. I still love this post and am happy that you stopped by today! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, what a choice of items! Very wise for self-defence & rescue purposes. Not to mention all the fun that barrel of rum in combination with the books would provide. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Pepca!
