Welcome to Bonfire Academy. Set in the foothills of the alpine mountains in St.Moritz, this exclusive private school caters to a special kind of student. Enter at your own risk... but if you are human, you may not want to enter at all.WARNING: This YA story is set in a school for paranormals who are very different from normal human teens. Thus, the language and some scenes might not be appropriate for younger YA readers. Recommended for those sixteen and above.
When I first started reading this book I had no idea that it was the beginning of a prequel series to the Bonfire Chronicles that Imogen Rose had previously written. I just really loved the cover for this book and it called to me, but I do have to say that if Faustine is even remotely as exciting and intriguing as Initiation, then Imogen has found a new super fan in me.
To start we find out that the Academy is an amazingly posh school in Switzerland for a multitude of paranormals - demons, shifters, vampires, faeries and more. It's a refreshing story because not all of the different groups at the school get along and this causes chaos and tons of drama like you wouldn't believe.
From the beginning we learn that there a Golden Rules to follow at Bonfire Academy.
1. You do not talk about the Academy with outsiders.
2. Trust no one.
3. Never miss a meal.
I think the biggest one that must be remembered is TRUST NO ONE!
Cordelia and Faustine have an interesting relationship that goes from mentor and student to that of a great bond. Since Cordelia is in her last year and Faustine is in her first (with early enrolment - she is only 12), it makes perfect sense for them to be paired together and it probably doesn't hurt that they are both demon princesses.
There is also a really great love triangle in this book between Cordelia, her demon boyfriend Quinn and the really hunky student council president, Jasper (who happens to be fae). Quinn is the endearing boyfriend who would do anything for her. Jasper has synced with Cordelia causing them to have this really strong bond. There is an amazing tension between the three characters.
Overall, this story moves quickly and is well written. It's filled with drama, mystery and adventure. I cannot wait to read the second book in the prequel series, Integration, as well as the first book in the Bonfire Chronicles - Faustine.
Check out yesterday's post where there is an interview with the sexy fae, Jagger.

Meet Imogen Rose
Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling YA series, the Portal Chronicles. She was born in a small town in Sweden and moved to London in her twenties. After obtaining a PhD in immunology from Imperial College, she moved with her family to New Jersey, where she’s been based for the past ten years.
For as long as she can remember, Imogen has dreamt stories. Stories that continued from night to night, from dream to dream. So, even as a child, going to bed was never an issue, just an anticipation of the story to come.
PORTAL, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.
The warm reception PORTAL received encouraged her to continue with the story and the Portal Chronicles. The Bonfire Chronicles is Imogen’s new YA paranormal series.
Imogen is a self-confessed Hermès addict who enjoys shopping, traveling, watching movies and playing with her dog, Tallulah
This sounds fantastic! I have to admit I have been a little put out with self pubs lately (I try to read at least one a month). This sounds like a great book/author to get me back in the game! :) Thanks so much for your review and introduction to both of these series.
