Introduction Self Interview

My name is Chrystal and I'm a 30-something year old blogger. I've been blogging for ALMOST two years now (blogoversary is coming up quick - guess I better come up with some kind of event). Initially I was just searching for info on a book that looked interesting and came upon a book blog (All About {n}) and read a review of the book. I honestly had never thought of the concept book blogging - truly and honestly. As soon as I started checking out this blog and realized that I could totally do this... share my thoughts on the books I love to read. So I started up a blog of my own - it was going to be about everything at first, but quite quickly it turned into just about book blogging. And I haven't looked back since.
2. Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.
I am getting married soon. Very soon. EEK! September 29th to be exact. I'm stressed out and excited all at the same time. It's an outdoor wedding at a conservation park. Our guests can hand feed chickadees while we go get our photos done around the park. Dinner will be there too in the pretty building that looks out over the water at sunset. The entire theme was built around my obsession with antique birdcages. So my centerpieces are birdcages of all sorts with little birds and nests inside (fake of course). The colours are coral and a pale sage green.
3. What is your favourite feature on your blog (ie. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)?
My favourite feature is Deserted Island - where both authors and bloggers stop by to let us in on their choices of items and books (they get to choose five of each) that they would want with them if ever stuck on a deserted island and why they chose those items. It's been a lot of fun seeing what people come up with - sometimes the posts are super serious and other times completely silly and I love being surprised with their answers.
4. Which is your favourite post that you have written that you want everyone to read?
I have two:
*Guest post for A&C Book Junkies for their Canuck Week regarding my fave childhood book: The Little Prince
*My review of ReVamped by Ada Adams (she's Canadian, she was featured in a magazine and I've struck up a lovely new friendship with her - can't beat that).
5. What is your favourite part of the book blogging community? Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years?
I love being able to share my thoughts on books with others who have the same love for reading, books and blogging. I have met so many great bloggers and authors both virtually and in real life and it has been amazing so far. I've attended some great author events, met up with fellow Canadian bloggers and have just had a wonderful time in general. The only thing I can think of that I'd like to see changed is how people deal with one another when something doesn't go right or when a blogger does something that people feel needs to be called out on. Things don't need to get so heated and honestly in the past little bit I think all of the comments and tweeting and such make book bloggers look worse than the actual issues that brought it all to light. The one thing I'm learning in life in general is to not dwell on things.
Your wedding ideas sound fun. I just got married on Saturday. It was just us and our dog.
ReplyDeleteMy intro is at http://www.spiritblog.net
Thanks Heather. Aww that sounds sweet too, just the two of you and your dog... perhaps I should have thought of that because I am finding this whole thing stressful. LOL Congrats to you!

DeleteOh, I love the Deserted Island feature! Interesting features are one thing I've really struggled with on my blog, so I always like hearing what other people do.
ReplyDeleteIt just came to me one day when I realized a lot of bloggers ask that question to authors when doing interviews, so I thought why not make it a true feature. :)
DeleteIf you ever want to participate - drop me a line. :)
Glad to see you "at" Armchair BEA, Chrystal! :D
ReplyDeleteAwe, your wedding sounds like it's going to beautiful, and that's such a sweet picture. Is that your hands with your fiance's?
I love you Deserted Island feature, too. ;) It's always fun to read the difference answers. It was a wonderful idea for a feature. :)
Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself with us! I always love learning more about the blogger's I like! :)

Thanks Ambur! Same here. Wish I could have attended BEA, but Armchair BEA is pretty awesome itself. ;)
DeleteYep those are our hands from our engagement shoot at the conservation area where we got to feed chickadees. :) Pretty cute eh?
I'm excited that your Deserted Island post is coming up soon actually - June 21st! :)
I'll be stopping by everyone's Intro posts later tonight.
Your Desert Island feature sounds like fun! I'll check back later to read some of them. Hope you're enjoying BEA!
ReplyDeleteHi Tami! I hope you enjoy them - there have been some really great posts on Deserted Island. See you around!
DeleteAuthors always cheat when I ask them to list their desert island books :-) But I'd probably cheat too!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, and thanks for stopping by my Armchair BEA Intro!
LOL Thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteCongrats on your wedding It sounds lovely. My daughter just got married two weeks ago, so I'm still in "wedding mode." Enjoy BEA!

DeleteSo nice to read your introduction! Congratulations on the upcoming wedding! It sounds like it will be absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDeserted Island does sound like it would be fun! I'll have to watch for that from now on.
Thank you on both counts. :) Hope to see you around!
DeleteCongrats on the upcoming wedding!!!! What a fun location idea.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea behind your deserted island feature! I keep running across so many fun features today. I'm jealous! So not creative. LOL!
Thank you so much! It took me a long time to come up with my deserted island idea... so I'm sure one day something will just click. :)
DeleteCongrats on your wedding! Your centerpieces sound awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo great to know more about you! Love your blog!
Thanks for stopping by Hannah! :)
DeleteI'm so glad you stopped by my blog because I am loving yours!! I love that you collect birdcages, and what an awesome theme for a wedding! Congrats on that btw! Also, I completely agree with you on the whole "calling out" other bloggers for mistakes they have made. Can't we all just get along? :) Have an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much! :)
DeleteI didn't get involved with all the drama either, this was the first I've actually made of any kind of public comment regarding it.
oh, good luck and congratulations on the wedding! hope it goes all as planned! it's a stressful thing, but so worth it in the end!
ReplyDeleteenjoy armchair BEA! (btw, I responded to your comment on my blog, if you care to read the reply!)
Thanks Ashelynn! Off to check out your reply on your blog. Thanks for letting me know about it.
DeleteOh my gosh, congratulations on getting married soon Crystal. I'm so happy for you and I hope that it's as beautiful as you want and goes off without a hitch. lol. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of like you in a way, even though I super secretively did a little bit of a research on book blogs just to see what I was getting into. I love how wonderfully accepting and amazing fellow bloggers are in this blogging community and how helpful some of them are like Parajunkee and Small Reviews, with their blogging tips and tricks that they share to help improve blogs.
Your Desert Island feature is a really fun and original feature that I have really enjoyed so far. I'll have to admit that it's given me a moment to pause and ponder what I would take, myself. I like how you are able to get author's involved with it as well as fellow bloggers. :)

Thank you on all accounts. I'm pretty excited about wedding, anxious for it to be here already, stressed that it's happening too soon, LOL Everything all at once!
DeleteI love Parajunkee too and I will be checking out Small Reviews this week. Thanks for the recommendations.
You should send me an email and we can workout a spot for you for Deserted Island if you are interested. :) I love having a mix of authors and bloggers. It's always fun to see what they would choose.
Cheers!
An early congrats on getting married, Crystal! Your wedding sounds like it will be LOVELY! I also love your Desert Island feature, so fun! Nice to meet you. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I think your header is adorable.
Thanks Elena! I designed the header myself. :)

Chrystal, thanks for stopping by my blog! It's nice to meet you! Congratulations on the wedding! It sounds amazing. :) I love your Deserted Island feature! I might have to participate with you. :)
ReplyDelete- Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl
Hi Jana! Thanks bunches! If you want to participate feel free to send me an email at snowdropdreamsATgmailDOTcom and we can set something up. :)
DeleteCongratulations on the wedding! I think that feeding chicadees sounds adorable and sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour Deserted Island feature is fantastic. I just spent 15 minutes reading some of your posts (This BEA is hazardous to time! IT just seems to be disappearing before I realize it).
I like what you said about sometimes the drama in the blogging community getting a little too heated. I've not been apart of any of it but have read it and I think people get a little too cruel at times.
I love that you love Canadian books and are trying to support them :)
- Kate
Thanks Kate! Armchair BEA is totally sucking up all of my time. I have a goal to visit every blog that posted a link on the intro post day, so trying to do a few each day. LOL This is pretty awesome because I have found so many amazing new blogs. :)
DeleteGlad you enjoy my feature, feel free to contact me if you want to be featured sometime. :)
I am totally in love with helping support my fellow Canadians, be they bloggers or authors. I think it's important to support the people closest to you.
Oh and the drama... I have not comment until this post about drama on the blogging community. Trying my best to stay out of it if I can. ;)
Congrats on your upcoming wedding and best wishes for a fabulous day!
ReplyDeleteI'll be reading ReVamped as part of a promotion to get it out to different countries, I'm very much looking forward to it.
Nice meeting you.
Are you reading as part of the ReVamped Reader Relay? I really hope you enjoy it. I loved it so much!
DeleteIt's nice to meet you and congratulations on your wedding. Thank you for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by ellen :)
DeleteI haven't read The Petit Prince, yet. I did purchase the book (in French) from a little book store in England, but never got around to reading it. I really should, though, huh?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your upcoming marriage! :)
Allison
Well-Read Reviews
I loved it in both French and English. :) You should definitely read it soon. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by and for the well wishes.
Congratulations, enjoy the plans and your day into forver happiness :-)
ReplyDeleteNetworking makes blogging beyond worthwhile.
Awww forever happiness... that sounds nice. :) Thank you.
DeleteAnd yes networking does make blogging completely worthwhile. Always meeting great new people like yourself along the way.
I'm also getting married on September 29th!! I love the birdcage centrepieces - they'll be beautiful!! We're doing a trio of mini-mason jars, wrapped in silver and purple ribbon with floating tea lights.
ReplyDeleteCan't agree more about not dwelling on the drama!
Nice to meet you Chrystal, and congratulations!
Kelly
Radiant Shadows
YAY! September 29th must be a great day then. :) Congrats on your upcoming wedding as well. Your centerpieces sound beautiful too. Love silver and purple together. I'm not doing fall colours either, I'm having coral for my sister's dress (my only bridesmaid/maid of honour) and then my flower colours are corals, peaches, blushes, etc. :) And then natural sticks with no leaves for inside the birdcages with nests and little birds. It's going to be amazing!
DeleteSo happy to have met you Kelly! Hope to see you around the blogosphere more often!
Aww thanks! It's been a lot of fun putting together and I hope to continue it for as long as I can. :)
ReplyDeleteYour wedding sounds like it is going to be beautiful and unique. I'd love to attend ;)
ReplyDeleteYour Deserted Island posts sound like such fun!
Thank you. :) You should participate in Deserted Island sometime. :) It's a lot of fun.
DeleteI love your answer for the last question and I completely agree with you! It's the harsh part of the drama that makes it worse. It's one thing to call it out when someone does something wrong, but it's the way you do it... But I love the book blogging community! It's more often a wonderful place that accept anyone! :D
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by earlier! I'm all late since real life got in the way, but catching up!
Hi Rebecca! Thanks for stopping by. Drama is drama no matter where you are, but sometimes people need to let go and move on. I do love that the book blogging community is very friendly and helpful overall. Most of the time there is no drama to speak of and I love being a part of such a positive group.
DeleteI'm trying to visit every single Armchair BEA intro post.... only 328 more to go. LOL
NIce! I always love thinking about what I'll bring to a Desert Island! Happy almost wedding!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful Buffy Marathon!
Aww thanks for stopping by Rachel! I think I might just watch my favourite episodes this weekend while I do wedding crafts. ;)
DeleteThanks for stopping by! And congrats on the upcoming wedding. I love the idea of birdcages for center pieces. That is so different. Also, thanks for the compliments on my blog, I will certainly be back.
ReplyDeleteHappy BEA!
