Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your fave authors and bloggers would pick.
Today my friend Pepca from Beyond Strange New Words has joined me to share her thoughts on being stranded on a deserted island and what she would like to have with her.

If I get stuck on a deserted island, I would like to have these books with me:
1) The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
2) The Bible
3) something like 101 on How to Survive on a Deserted Island (that's me being practical)
4) Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer (actually, I'd like the whole Twilight Saga, but that would be cheating)
5) A historical novel by a Slovene author F. S. Finzgar, I think it might be translated into English as Under the Free Sun or something like that. It was first published in 1906-1907 so the information about potential translation into English is vague. The novel is about Slavic tribes in the time of the Byzantine Empire and it is my favourite book side by side with The Lord of the Rings.
I think these books would keep me from being bored and going insane, and help me survive. Naturally, in terms of survival, these items would come handy to have on a deserted island:
1) a bottle (or a bucket, which would be better, though I didn't think of it on my own) for keeping rainwater or possibly gathering it from a stream if there is any on the island
2) a Swiss Army knife - with all the small gadgets in one it would be very useful
3) a tent, so I would have some shelter, and the ropes that come with it could be used for other purposes as needed (and you never know when you need a rope, I might for example need to make a makeshift hammock to escape wild animals)
4) a signal rocket or even better a package of those - could be used not only for signalling but also as a weapon in case any savages or drug lords show up (yes, I've seen a movie or two too much)
5) a satellite phone, so I can call for help when I get tired of everything, duh:)
That would be it. In reality, I'd probably die from a stroke the first day due to too much worrying - because I'm like that. :)
Thanks for being my guest poster Pepca! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! I was honored and loved writing this. :)
DeleteExcellent choice in a book about how to survive being stranded on a desert island! Never would have thought of that, but it seems so obvious now.
