Random Magic Tour: Pirates!

Random Magic Tour: Pirates! Bonus: Free audio book: Treasure Island
As part of Random Magic Tour: Pirates!, it’d be fun to swap some great pirate yarns -- or just listen to a few great tales about the sweet trade, the black flag, pirate queens or the Brethren of the Coast.

On this blog, you can listen to the audio book Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson. A description of this classic adventure novel can be found here:
Treasure Island is an adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, narrating a tale of 'pirates and buried gold.' First published as a book in May 1883 under the title  Treasure Island; or, the mutiny of the Hispaniola and the pseudonym Captain George North.

Traditionally considered a coming-of-age story, it’s an adventure tale known for its atmosphere, character and action, and also a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality -- as seen in Long John Silver.

According to Stevenson's  letters, the character of Long John Silver was inspired by his real-life friend William Henley, a writer and editor. Stevenson's stepson, Lloyd Osbourne, described Henley as ‘...a great, glowing, massive-shouldered fellow with a big red beard and a crutch; jovial, astoundingly clever, and with a laugh that rolled like music; he had an unimaginable fire and vitality; he swept one off one's feet.’ The influence of Treasure Island on the popular perception of pirates is vast, including treasure maps with an 'X,' schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and seamen with parrots on their  shoulders. Random Magic About Random Magic: When absent-minded Professor Random misplaces the main character from Alice in Wonderland, young Henry Witherspoon must book-jump to fetch Alice before chaos theory kicks in and the world  vanishes.

Henry and Winnie brave the Dark Queen, whatwolves, pirates, Strüths, and fluttersmoths, Priscilla and Charybdis, obnoxiously cheerful vampires, Baron Samedi, a nine-dimensional cat, and one perpetually inebriated Muse to rescue Alice and save the world by tea time.
