Shelf Control Pick For February

I'm going to be participating (once a month) on this weekly meme - Shelf Control by Bookshelf Fantasies - where you post about a book that you already own or are previously release. I will be making sure these are books that are either already on my shelves or on my Kindle. I want to use this to make sure that I am tackling at least one book a month from the existing stacks.

My pick for February is a recently added title:

Hung Up On You by Marie Landry
Published: January 14, 2020
Publisher: self published
Find Online: Goodreads | Amazon

Julia and Zack aren’t really dating. Their relationship is fake. Julia’s heart did not get the memo.

Julia is single and happy, thank you very much. Try telling that to her happily-coupled bestie, though. She’s so determined to pair Julia off, she brings an extra guy friend along on a weekend getaway, in what’s clearly a set-up attempt. Julia’s interest is immediately piqued by sweet, sexy, nerdy Zack. There’s just one problem: he’s still hung up on his ex. Big time.

Despite knowing that - and despite her attraction to him - it doesn’t stop her friends from throwing them together every other second, insisting they’d make the perfect couple. But Julia is determined to friend zone him...at least until he suggests they pretend to date to get their respective friends off their backs.

At first, their fake “dating” is more friendship than fireworks. But as they get closer, the lines begin to blur between them, and Julia realizes she has to either shut down her developing feelings for Zack or let him in. The question is: can she fully trust him with her heart? Or does his heart still belong to his ex?

Things to Do When It's Raining by Marissa Stapley
Published: February 2018
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Canada
Pages: 256

Two families are torn apart by secret pasts and broken hearts—from Globe and Mail-bestselling author Marissa Stapley.

When secrets tear love apart, can the truth mend it?

Mae Summers and Gabriel Broadbent grew up together in the idyllic Summers’ Inn, perched at the edge the St. Lawrence river. Mae was orphaned at the age of six and Gabe needed protection from his alcoholic father, so both were raised under one roof by Mae’s grandparents, Lilly and George. A childhood friendship quickly developed into a first love—a love that was suddenly broken by Gabe’s unexpected departure. Mae grew up, got over her heartbreak, and started a life for herself in New York City.

After more than a decade, Mae and Gabe find themselves pulled back to Alexandria Bay. Hoping to find solace within the Summers’ Inn, Mae instead finds her grandparents in the midst of decline and their past unravelling around her. A lifetime of secrets stand in the way of this unconventional family’s happiness. Will they be able to reclaim the past and come together, or will they remain separate islands?

From the bestselling author of Mating for Life comes a powerful story about guilt, forgiveness and the truth about families: that we can choose them, just as we choose to love.

How and when I got it:
Bought it at a thrift store last year. Had been on my wishlist since it released in 2018.

Why I want to read it:
Canadian author, Canadian setting local to me, and look at that gorgeous cover!
