The Betrayed (Krewe of Hunters #14) by Heather GrahamPublished: September 30, 2014Publisher: Harlequin MIRAPages: 400Received: for honest review via publisher and TLC Book ToursOne night, New York FBI agent Aiden Mahoney receives a visitor in a dream—an old friend named Richard Highsmith. The very next day he’s sent to Sleepy Hollow because Richard’s gone missing there.
Maureen—Mo—Deauville now lives in the historic town and works with her dog, Rollo, to search for missing people. She’s actually the one to find Richard…or more precisely his head, stuck on a statue of the legendary Headless Horseman.
Mo and Aiden, a new member of the Krewe of Hunters, the FBI’s unit of paranormal investigators, explore both past and present events to figure out who betrayed Richard, who killed him and now wants to kill them, too. As they work together, they discover that they share an unusual trait—the ability to communicate with the dead. They also share an attraction that’s as intense as it is unexpected…if they live long enough to enjoy it!
I've been really enjoying Heather Graham's books and since this is my second I will have to be sure to go back and read the others.
Perfect timing for this book too as Hallowe'en is just around the corner and this book provides a great amount of spooky atmosphere with haunted houses, cemeteries and ghost stories. Add a little bit of Sleepy Hollow lore and a headless horseman reference and you've got yourself a great story.
I love that the characters, Mo and Aiden, can communicate with dead people and that they share this ability though in slightly different ways. It allows them work well together on the case. They also share a little more than work and have a sweet attraction to each other. Gotta love a little romance mixed into a mystery novel.
Honestly, I'm really enjoying these paranormal mystery stories that Ms. Graham writes. You can enjoy them as standalones or as part of the series. Either way you will want to read more about the Krewe and all of the amazing history that goes into each one. I know I do!
