Goodnight, Tweetheart by Teresa MedeirosPublished: December 14, 2010Publisher: Gallery BooksPages: 222Received: Bought itNew York Times bestselling author Teresa Medeiros absolutely dazzles in this quick-witted, laugh-out-loud funny, and highly moving love story that will set readers' hearts atwitter.
Abigail Donovan has a lot of stuff she should be doing. Namely writing her next novel. A bestselling author who is still recovering from a near Pulitzer Prize win and the heady success that follows Oprah'stamp of approval, she is stuck at Chapter Five and losing confidence daily. But when her publicist signs her up for a Twitter account, she's intrigued. What's all the fuss?
Taken under the wing of one of her Twitter followers, "MarkBaynard", a quick witted, quick-typing professor on sabbatical, Abby finds it easy to put words out into the world 140 characters at a time. And once she gets a handle on tweets, retweets, direct messages, hashtags, and trends, she starts to feel unblocked in writing and in life. After all, why should she be spending hours in her apartment staring at her TweetDeck and fretting about her stalled career when Mark is out there traveling the world and living?Or is he?
Told almost entirely in tweets and DMs, Goodnight Tweetheart is a truly modern take on a classic tale of love and loss, a Griffin and Sabine for the Twitter generation.
This is one of those books that will always be on my bookshelf. It has all of the things I love in a book - humour, romance and emotion!
Abby is a best selling author, who is struggling to finish writing her second novel. It's been a struggle since her father passed away and her mother had to go into a home. Nothing was the same after those things happened and it's put Abby into a state of fear. She can't seem to get past a few chapters and she can't seem to move out of the comfort of the four walls of her apartment.
As funny as this sounds, I can see falling in love with someone based on online interactions. Hello Online Dating (and how I met my husband). I know people are skeptical about it all, but somehow I think you can just saw everything you are thinking without feeling judged because you can't see the person you are interacting with - it allows people to be uninhibited about likes, dislikes, quirks and flaws. And after sharing it all, you can see if they'd be in it for the long haul.
I found this is exactly what happens with Abby and Mark, though he keeps one important piece of info from her and this upsets her. They actually hit a real rough patch in their online relationship. I hurt for them when this happened... I wanted them to make it through it all and be together.
You kind of fall in love along with them. And they have this cute little back and forth banter that will just get you every time. When they say goodnight to each other they use pop culture references and it's fun to pick out where the names are from. I kept showing my husband and giggling (this was on a plane ride).
Overall, this book is a quick and fun read. Lots of emotion. Lots of fun references. And most of all - a love story. What more could you ask for?
