Foreplay (The Ivy Chronicles #1) by Sophie JordanPublished: November 5, 2013Publisher: William MorrowPages: 320Received: for honest review/blog tour via TLC Book ToursBuy Now: AmazonBefore she goes after the life she’s always wanted, she’s about to find the one she needs.
Pepper has been hopelessly in love with her best friend’s brother, Hunter, for like ever. He’s the key to everything she’s always craved: security, stability, family. But she needs Hunter to notice her as more than just a friend. Even though she’s kissed exactly one guy, she has just the plan to go from novice to rock star in the bedroom—take a few pointers from someone who knows what he’s doing.
Her college roommates have the perfect teacher in mind. But bartender Reece is nothing like the player Pepper expects. Yes, he’s beyond gorgeous, but he’s also dangerous, deep—with a troubled past. Soon what started as lessons in attraction are turning both their worlds around, and showing just what can happen when you go past foreplay and get to what’s real…
I finished this book so quickly - I was drawn in from the first chapter. I'm new to the whole New Adult genre and many seem to be contemporary stories and I was wondering how many will start to sound the same? Foreplay grabbed me and didn't let go, so I believe this series will hold it's own.
Pepper is a goody two shoes type of girl who is just trying to not fall in her mother's footsteps. She has set goals for her entire life and nothing will derail her from getting there - even landing the perfect guy that will help her have the life she has always wanted, a safe and secure future.
When her dream man, Hunter, suddenly becomes single, she realizes she has no idea what it's like to date, flirt and more. Her BFFs, Emerson and Georgia, decide to help her gain experience in order to catch Hunter's eye. Little does Pepper know that the plan will shake up her whole world and make her head spin.
When Pepper meets Reece, she thinks he isn't into her. In reality he is very intrigued by her, since she is not like the other girls who throw themselves at him. Reece knows the effect he has on women with his rugged good looks, his tattoos and his sexy body, but he is looking for more than just a pretty face to call his own. Pepper is smart, funny and beautiful in that doesn't know she's pretty way. She is exactly everything he's never gone for before, but now's his chance.
When Reece agrees to tutor Pepper in the was of flirting and foreplay, she has no idea that he has the hots for her. Honestly, I loved that she was kind of clueless and that Reece counted on her inexperience to bring them closer. Deep down you just know that he wants her for himself, but is helping her land the man she has her eyes set on because a promise is a promise.
I think the way the relationship between Pepper and Reece progresses is comical yet sexy due to her naivete. She doesn't know what she wants and tries to push feelings away for what she has always thought she wanted. They are incredibly intense together and definitely bring the heat.
Overall, I liked Reece for his bad boy looks and his boy next door charm - the man has swagger. And Pepper for her "nice girl" mindset and eagerness to have a better life.
I am really looking forward to reading the other books in the Ivy Chronicles series - I have it on good authority that the next book is Emerson's story and then Georgia's! I love when authors create a series from the supporting characters in their books.

About the author:
Sophie Jordan took her adolescent daydreaming one step further and
penned her first historical romance in the back of her high school
Spanish class. This passion led her to pursue a degree in English and
History. A brief stint in law school taught her that case law was not
nearly as interesting as literature – teaching English seemed the
natural recourse.
After several years teaching high school students to love Antigone, Sophie resigned with the birth of her first child and decided it was time to pursue the long-held dream of writing.

In less than three years, her first book, Once Upon a Wedding Night, a 2006 Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Nominee for Best First Historical Romance, hit book shelves. Her second novel,Too Wicked to Tame released in March 2007 with a bang, landing on the USA Today Bestseller’s List.
And as if she’s not busy enough, Sophie writes contemporary paranormals for Pocket under the name Sharie Kohler. Sophie resides in the Houston area with her family and loves to hear from readers.

I like it when authors expand a series to have books focusing on various characters. Sounds like this series is off to a great start!
