Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your favourite authors and bloggers would pick. Click here if you would like to participate.
This week another of my favourite book bloggers has decided to let us in on her Deserted Island choices - Shelleyrae from Book'd Out! I always love to see what books others would choose to read on the island and Shelleyrae didn't dissapoint - see for yourself.
If you were stranded on a deserted
island:
1) Which five books would you want with you and why?
The Stand by Stephen King because it is a chunkster and one of the few books I would consider rereading
The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle to keep my tiny mind sharp
The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis because they
combine fantasy, adventure and romance and when the island's animals (or
trees) start talking to me I won't be so surprised
Carpentaria by Alexis Cartright because I have been
meaning to read it for ages and haven't got around to it, plus it's
Australian so I won't feel so homesick
The SAS Survival Handbook by John 'Lofty' Wiseman
because I will need whatever help I can get
2) Which five items would you want with you and
why?
* Zip lock bags - lots of zip lock bags! I love zip
lock bags, I use them for everything and I have no doubt I would find them
useful even on a desert island, from collecting rain water to using them in
place of fishing nets and keeping sand out of stuff!
* Matches - so I have light to read by at night, oh
and fire of course.
* Duct tape - my husband assures me that with duct
tape one can make or fix anything
* The biggest Swiss army knife you can buy - a
real one, from Switzerland - not a cheap knockoff where the scissors don't
cut a thing and the corkscrew snaps the first time you use it.
* Toilet paper - surely that doesn't need an
explanation

You're courageous if you would want to be alone on a deserted island with Stephen King! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHa-ha...good one, Laura.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Shelleyrae....I think I'll avoid desert islands, though. LOL
One way ticket home and a boat to get me an island with an airport! Good list!
ReplyDeleteI love how practical you are! I have been told many times that duct tape (which I'm embarrassed to admit I only just found out wasn't spelled duck tape) can fix anything! I'd also bring Narnia with me. I love those books.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'd want to be reading a Stephen King book stranded on my own on a desert island... Assuming I really was alone... :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with whyanot... Very practical! :)
Thanks for inviting me to be part of your feature Chrystal!
