Some things are worth waiting for...

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago--an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe--please God--make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn't need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she's building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing...

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that's just so... so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet...

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she's has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for...

First, you all need to know that I started reading this at 10PM before bed and I could not stop reading until I was done at 3AM. It's that good!

The story just captivated me from the beginning when Avery first smashes into Cam while rushing to class. They keep bumping into each other and suddenly develop a close friendship that slowly leads to more.

Avery is the kind of girl I would totally be friends with - smart and funny. She is making her way through life now that she has left home for college and is determined to do it her way. She is a very likable and real character. The only thing I regret about Avery is her not trusting Cam enough to open up to him sooner. Avery is very standoffish at first, not wanting to let anyone get close to her and rightly so once you know her secret. She is trying to move on from her past and is afraid to let Cam get too close - because she is afraid they will both get hurt.

Avery and Cam are wonderful together - any time they would argue, my heart would hurt a little for them. The thing is, the only problems they faced were hard issues and letting someone in on your secrets is hard work when you've spent five years hiding from them. I was worried he would get tired of the drama and secrets and she would be left figuring out all the pieces alone.

I will say that I was impressed with the subject matter in regards to the secret - so much of the same thing is in the news everyday lately and the bullying that seems to be coming along with it is disgusting. The way her family dealt with the issue is just unimaginable, but in the end I am glad that Avery was able to deal with it in her own way.

Cam is this player type guy that I thought would break her heart once she let her guards down, but I was pleasantly surprised by his character and I think he just me be the top "book boyfriend" I've read about. He was there when she needed him, he pushed her out of her comfort zone enough to make her realize she can't stop running and hiding anymore and he even shared a dark secret of his own to gain her trust. And he never pushed her to do more than she was comfortable with, he waited for her to call the shots. He is completely swoon-worthy.

I haven't read a book that made me smile this much in so long. Oh there were other emotions involved too including anger, sadness and empathy, but happy was the top one during my read.

And lastly, the supporting characters were awesome (and I hear there will be more books about some of them), there were references to some of my fave pop culture and there were some pretty steamy scenes to be had. Overall... loved this book and this series is now on my auto-buy list.

About the author:
J. Lynn is the pen name of Jennifer L. Armentrout. Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories - which explains her dismal math grades. When she is not hard at work writing, she's reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and he Jack Russell terrier, Loki.
