I really was excited to read this book when I found out that it was based on a paranormal being that I've never read about before - a nightmare! I had no idea that nightmares could really exist as an entity - one who feeds off of the dreams of others. It was a very interesting concept and I loved every minute of learning about Dusty and her magical abilities. Also, I loved learning more about the other beings that are introduced throughout the novel - some I have known for as long as I have been reading while others were very new to me.
I enjoyed that the main character, Dusty (half human, half nightmare), was not squished into a set role. She was herself, didn't let too much bother her, had great friends and was just trying to show everyone that she was not like her mother (a full blooded nightmare). There wasn't a ton of teen angst in this novel and I appreciated that it was without all of that emotional baggage. Dusty's abilities also have quite a twist to them and I found it to be quite unique.
Between the mystery needing to be solved, the love triangle and learning about Magickind - I was totally taken in by this book. The Nightmare Affair is a very entertaining read and I look forward to reading more from Mindee Arnett. Oh and don't you just love the cover?
