Deserted Island with J.A. Belfield

Crikey, naming your favourite books seems easy until you’re faced with the limitations of only choosing five. And the fact I follow a lot of series is also problematic, because if I took all books from a singular series then I wouldn’t have a different author/style/genre to suit my mood. Hmmmm. Okay, I’ve given it a lot of thought, and come up with these:

1. Love Black Dagger Brotherhood. So after much consideration and backing and forthing between Lover Awakened and Lover Mine, I finally decided to go with … Lover Awakened.
2. I also love Clayton Danvers, even with his psychopathic tendencies … which makes choosing between Bitten and Frostbitten (my two faves of the series) or Men of the Otherworld so that I only get Clay pretty difficult. But I think I’ll go for Frostbitten—simply because I loved witnessing the development in his relationship with Elena and how much that has changed from the start.
3. Hide & Seek by Aimee Laine. Because there’s just something about Tripp Fox that has always gotten under my skin.
4. Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares so I never forget how it feels to be inflicted by normal, human emotions.
5. Oh, boy, only one left … hmmmm, okay: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout, I reckon—because someone has to fight the corner of YA, and my other favourites are part of a trilogy which would send me crazy if I only had one part of them to read.

Now, as for my ‘survival’ items …

1. Going for the practical stuff first: a knife. A sharp knife. One that’ll cut me some shoots, and hack me some branches and gut me some food (yeah, coz I know how to do that! O_o)
2. A lighter. Hey, why would I make the first weeks difficult for myself by wasting energy of rubbing sticks together? Don’t you realise that would take me away from those books I bought with me?
3. A stationary set. Ha! You see how I covered all the writing basics with one choice?
4. Sunglasses. I have seriously sensitive eyes when it comes to light. PLUS, they’ll make me look cooler, as well as cover any sleepless nights, so I’ll be more appealing to any passing pirates in their yachts.
5. Hmmm, I’ll admit I toyed with the idea of some kind of receptacle until I reminded myself I can use my knife to craft a cup out of a coconut shell … so I’m going to go with … a decent supply of Nescafe cappuccinos. 

So now you know what to look out for if you ever pass a lone island: a blonde in sunglasses, sitting in front of a stocked rustic bookcase she’s crafted with her knife into a tree trunk and writing in her pretty pink note book (because that’s the colour set I’d choose), with coffee on the go. Ha!

One day, a character and scene popped into J. A. Belfield’s head, and she started controlling the little people inside her imagination, as though she were the puppet master and they her toys. Questions arose: What would happen if …? How would they react if …? Who would they meet if …?
Before she knew it, a singular scene had become an entire movie. The characters she controlled began to hold conversations. Their actions reflected the personalities she bestowed upon them. Within no time, they had a life, a lover, a foe, family … they had Become.
