Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your favourite authors and bloggers would pick. Click here if you would like to participate.
This week J.A. Belfield, author of the upcoming title, Eternal, is stopping by with her Deserted Island picks. Keep your eyes peeled for her if ever passing and lonley little island, because you won't miss her. ;) And thank you so much for participating this week Ms. Belfield!
Crikey, naming your favourite books
seems easy until you’re faced with the limitations of only choosing
five. And the fact I follow a lot of series is also problematic,
because if I took all books from a singular series then I wouldn’t
have a different author/style/genre to suit my mood. Hmmmm. Okay,
I’ve given it a lot of thought, and come up with these:
- Love Black Dagger Brotherhood. So after much consideration and backing and forthing between Lover Awakened and Lover Mine, I finally decided to go with … Lover Awakened.
- I also love Clayton Danvers, even with his psychopathic tendencies … which makes choosing between Bitten and Frostbitten (my two faves of the series) or Men of the Otherworld so that I only get Clay pretty difficult. But I think I’ll go for Frostbitten—simply because I loved witnessing the development in his relationship with Elena and how much that has changed from the start.
- Hide & Seek by Aimee Laine. Because there’s just something about Tripp Fox that has always gotten under my skin.
- Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares so I never forget how it feels to be inflicted by normal, human emotions.
- Oh, boy, only one left … hmmmm, okay: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout, I reckon—because someone has to fight the corner of YA, and my other favourites are part of a trilogy which would send me crazy if I only had one part of them to read.
Now, as for my
‘survival’ items …
- Going for the practical stuff first: a knife. A sharp knife. One that’ll cut me some shoots, and hack me some branches and gut me some food (yeah, coz I know how to do that! O_o)
- A lighter. Hey, why would I make the first weeks difficult for myself by wasting energy of rubbing sticks together? Don’t you realise that would take me away from those books I bought with me?
- A stationary set. Ha! You see how I covered all the writing basics with one choice?
- Sunglasses. I have seriously sensitive eyes when it comes to light. PLUS, they’ll make me look cooler, as well as cover any sleepless nights, so I’ll be more appealing to any passing pirates in their yachts.
- Hmmm, I’ll admit I toyed with the idea of some kind of receptacle until I reminded myself I can use my knife to craft a cup out of a coconut shell … so I’m going to go with … a decent supply of Nescafe cappuccinos.
So now you know
what to look out for if you ever pass a lone island: a blonde in
sunglasses, sitting in front of a stocked rustic bookcase she’s
crafted with her knife into a tree trunk and writing in her pretty
pink note book (because that’s the colour set I’d choose), with
coffee on the go. Ha!
About the author:
One day, a character and scene popped into J. A. Belfield’s head, and
she started controlling the little people inside her imagination, as
though she were the puppet master and they her toys. Questions arose:
What would happen if …? How would they react if …? Who would they meet
if …?
Before she knew it, a singular scene had become an entire movie. The characters she controlled began to hold conversations. Their actions reflected the personalities she bestowed upon them. Within no time, they had a life, a lover, a foe, family … they had Become.
One day, she wrote down her thoughts. She’s yet to stop.
J. A. Belfield lives in Solihull, England, with her husband, two children, four cats and a dog. She writes paranormal romance, with a second love for urban fantasy.

Hey, great book list! I thought you were another Tom Hanks in Castaway until I got to item 5! LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL, no definitely not another Tom Hanks, hehehe.
ReplyDeleteAwesome choices, J.A! :D Frostbitten is pretty awesome...and I agree, Clay's my favourite too. :D I'm so excited for Kelley's newest novella, Forbidden because it's Clay and Elena! :D And if I see you on your island, I shall be sure to wave...and maybe drop you off more coffee. ;D
ReplyDeleteYeah for more coffee! LOL I kind of stumbled in the series at Waking the Witch because that one didn't hold my interest as much as others have, but I really want to read on now it's so close to the end.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree there. I haven't read Spellbound yet because I wasn't really hooked with Waking the Witch either. I preferred when Savannah was just the young bratty ward of Paige and not the narrator. :P Hopefully once I get around to Spellbound I'll be hooked again. ;)
DeleteYes, I think I wqould do just find on a deserted island with Rhage, Zsadist, Vischous and John Matthew keeping me company... :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I see you've got my number, hehehehe. :o)
