Today one of my favourite authors, Elise Rome, is stopping by with her deserted island picks and a surprise giveaway! So read on to see
On a Deserted Island with Elise Rome
Thanks so much to Chrystal for having me on the blog today! I’ve always been a fan of deserted islands, to be honest. However, after having kids, my longing to become stranded on a deserted island by myself has definitely grown stronger. ;)
What five books and things would I like to have with me on a deserted island?
Let’s start with “things” first. (I’ve already thought about cheating and saying my Kindle, but alas, I know the battery wouldn’t last as long as I’d wish it to, and my backup idea of putting a house with electricity and water on the island seems to not be in the spirit of things, so…) =)
- A bed (complete with mattress, sheets, blanket, and pillows). I’ve been camping before—in a tent on the ground, in a pop-up camper, and in a fifth wheel. And I have to say that sleeping on an actual mattress has spoiled me. If I’m going to be on a deserted island (without kids!) I want to be able to sleep as much as possible since it’s bound to be uninterrupted sleep, and I want it to be comfortable.
- A hammock. I’ve always had a fantasy of hanging up a hammock in my back yard between two trees and doing nothing all day but napping and reading in that hammock. Hmm…sleep. I’m beginning to see a trend here…
- Pictures of my family. Even though I’d be glad to be stranded on a deserted island for a while, I’d definitely miss them. Also, I like to remind myself every once in a while of what cute babies my husband and I make. =)
- A journal (this also includes a pack of pens—let’s imagine them packaged together). I would really miss being able to write on my laptop, and I know the characters that like to keep me awake at night would still be there, demanding to be given their time on the page. I’d have to write them out just so I could…you guessed it—sleep.
- Chapstick. I just can’t live without it. I hate the feeling I get whenever my lips are dry. Of course, being the intrepid explorer I naturally am
, I’m sure I’d find a source of drinking water pretty fast, but chapstick would be very important nonetheless. And I don’t know how, but I’m fairly certain that chapstick helps me sleep better. ;)
Now for the books. This is actually the more difficult list to compile, because I’ve enjoyed so many books over the years, and continue to find new authors that I love. But here are the books (in no particular order) I’m confident I wouldn’t grow tired of reading again and again no matter how long I was stuck left enjoying my vacation on a deserted island.
- YOURS UNTIL DAWN by Teresa Medeiros. It doesn’t matter how many times I read this book, I adore it each and every time. The sparks and longing between the hero and heroine are just completely sigh-worthy... *sigh*
- OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon. Well, for one thing, it’s pretty long, so it would keep me occupied for a while. But also there’s a very sexy and heroic Scottish highlander named Jamie I just can’t get enough of.
- UNTIL THERE WAS YOU by Kristan Higgins. This was the last book of Kristan’s I’ve read and I don’t remember how many times I found myself laughing out loud in the bathtub (hey, the kids don’t come into the bathroom while I’m taking a bath…yet). I love her characterizations and sense of humor, and Liam is my favorite contemporary “bad boy” of all the ones I’ve ever read.
- GONE WITH THE WIND by Margaret Mitchell. Like #2 above, it’s long, but honestly Rhett and Scarlett were the first couple I ever fell in love with, and I’m always left breathless by their interactions and how much Rhett loves her. Of course, the book doesn’t end with an HEA, so I’d have to also bring:
- SCARLETT by Alexandra Ripley. For all the reasons in #4 above, but mainly because this is the book where I can be assured that Rhett and Scarlett truly do end up having a happy ending.
There you have it, the five things and books I would want to have with me on a deserted island. Now if this were a different sort of blog I might continue by talking about the five hot guys I’d like to see on the island, too (*cough* CliveOwenGerardButlerElliotCowanSteveBoydJonathanRhysMeyers *cough*), but then we’re not talking about that kind of a blog, are we? ;)
What about you? What is the #1 book you’d have to have with you on a deserted island? One random commenter will win a digital copy of my upcoming novella, THE SINNING HOUR (open internationally, to be sent upon publication). ENDS MARCH 2nd @ midnight EST.

Hi Aislynn! Interesting... I've never read that book. Will have to check it out now! =)
DeleteIt's a great book :) Set in Elizabethan times, young Irishwoman who travels the world and falls in love :)
DeletePicking just one is pretty tough...I will go with Lover Awakened by JR Ward. It's my favorite book and I can read over and over and never get tired of it.

Hi Dani! That's on my "must-read paranormals" TBR list. I've heard such great things about it! =)
DeleteUntil There Was You is one of my favorite Kristan Higgins's books as well. Actually there hasn't been one I didn't like :) I'm going to say Outlander because it's big and I haven't read it yet. Might as well take the opportunity to try an epic read.
ReplyDeleteWell, my must have would be Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It's also first on my list for my entry of this feature :)
