I'm pretty sure most of you are hardcore fans of holding a book in your hand to read and some are ereader fans, but how many of you enjoy listening to books? I generally prefer to hold an actual book in my hands, but I'm slowly getting used to reading ebooks on my laptop (soon to be ereader) and the odd audio book here and there.
Sometimes when I just want to surf the net, work on my blog or check out books online - I will pop in an audio book to listen to. I haven't done this in a while, but since I found out my library has ebooks and audio books available for borrowing I am going to try listening to The Hunger Games on my ipod the next week or so. I am desperate to finish at least one of my challenges I signed up for and the YA-D2 will be the easiest to finish as I only have one book left to read for it.
I have enjoyed many audio books in the past and am thinking that audio books might be in my future for the long car rides home to my parents at Christmas and next year for each visit we make. It will hopefully make the time go by quicker as it's a five to six hour drive.
Let me know if you enjoy listening to audio books or why you don't. I am always interested to see what others think of such things.
Off to get started on The Hunger Games while surfing the net tonight and looking at IMM's and Blog Hops from this weekend.
Actually, audio books has become my preferred way to read. It all began (lol) with Stephen Fry's narration of the Harry Potter books. I LOVED it! And from there, I've listened to many others that I really enjoyed, including YA authors Garth Nix's Abhorsen series, Maria V. Snyder's Study series, and Kristin Cashore's Graceling. I find it incredibly relaxing to listen to an audio book after my 8 hour workday.

ReplyDeleteAudiobooks make long car trips and boring household tasks a lot more palatable. And ever so often I discover something brilliant that I might never have picked up to read.
Stephen Fry is a great reader. I listened to him read his own book 'The Liar' a few years ago. The book was a bit patchy but he was very easy to listen to.
@Chivers - Thanks for you comment... I love hearing other people's point of views on things... both positive and negative. :) I think I need to be in the mood for an audio book or else I just can't get into them.
ReplyDeleteNice blog! Audio books are my thing when I am traveling long distances. It keeps me awake and it keeps my kids quiet. It is too distracting if I am trying to do things around the house. I have a question for you... do you review manuscripts? Come visit my blog!

ReplyDeleteI have yet to 'read' a book on audio. If I knew how to get the book from the CD to my iPod I might just try it but I have no clue as how to do that. I definitely couldn't be online or on the computer while listening to an audio book though. Doing chores yes.
ReplyDeleteI actually get the audio books from my library - they have a program that you can download and then it lets you put the books on your iPod. :) It's nice!
