EREADER DEBATE

So I had put this off for awhile, but have since decided that I really should get an ereader. My boyfriend has offered to get me one for Christmas if I really want one. I just need to figure out which type I want.

I've narrowed it down to the Nook or the Kobo as both can read the ebook versions I will be accessing and also can access my public library's ebooks. I am torn as to which to get because one plays MP3s and the other doesn't, one has a longer battery life, one had bookmarking abilities and the other doesn't. *sigh* This is a very hard decision.

I've been reading many websitres about the comparison like this one - Kindle 3 vs Nook vs Kobo.

But what I truly wonder is: what ereader do you guys have and would you recommend it?

ETA: Maybe Kindle? I'm reading more and more good stuff about them. *sigh*

  1. I have a Kindle and I adore it. It will, more than likely, have a way to support the formats you are interested in.

If a Kindle simply won't work, then I recommend the Nook. You can expand the memory, replace the battery...best bang for your non-Kindle buck.

  2. @Kelly - Hmmm.... I keep getting KINDLE as an answer... so maybe I will have to go with that one. I am getting ebooks from NetGalley and other sources as PDFs. And though it would be nice to do ebook library books (it is not necessary). Maybe Kindle is the way to go. :)

    Thanks for the input.

  4. I've had this debate with myself and ultimately settled on...waiting to see what Google comes up with. I know they provide the operating system for the Nook, but I also figure it's only a matter of time before they come up with their own tablet PC and all the awesomeness that goes along with it.

Cuz I ultimately decided I really wanted to get an iPad, but the one I really wanted costs as much as a regular PC, lol. So...I'm waiting.

One of the nice things about the Kindle, however, is that they now have the Kindle for PC app, which means you can download all your Kindle books to a PC too and synch it all up. I find that a nice option in case you'd rather read on your laptop sometimes. I also found a free ebook to Kindle converter, but it only works if the ebook is not protected. And the new Kindle's are cheaper than the original ones...

  5. @Crystal - I think I am going with the Kindle. A handful of friends have told me the pros of the kindle... and well I think it's the best for what I will do. :) Oh and that PC sync thing is probably a great selling feature too.

  6. I have a Kindle and a Nook, and to be honest, the Kindle is just flat out better in every single way, except for the library book thing, which isn't a big deal for me because most libraries' ebook selections are meh anyway - at least at this point in time they are.
I never cared for the Kobo because up until recently it didn't have wireless delivery, but now that it does, it might be okay. I haven't sat down and used one like I have the other two.

  8. I will say Kindle because that's what I have, and I love it.

You can read lots of formats, and you can even transfers your own files to it.

If you still aren't sure, then I'd say a Nook.

  9. I have a Kindle and love it. I had a Kindle 2 and upgraded to the Kindle 3. But if you want to borrow eBooks from your library, that won't work with the Kindle - at least as far as I know.

Can't wait to see which one you pick :)

  10. @The Book Vixen - I am pretty sure I am getting a Kindle. :) I found out I can get audio books from the library too so I can put them on my ipod and I am just learning about the ebooks, but I think I might be able to put them on an ereader, just not sure which ones work.
