Holly didn’t expect to be a widow at thirty-two. She also didn’t expect to be so big. After her husband’s death, food was the one thing she could always count on. Then she meets Logan Montgomery, a personal trainer so hot that he makes her sweat in all the right (and so embarrassingly wrong!) places. Charmed by her witty wisecracks and sharp insights, he impulsively offers to help get her back in shape.

To Logan’s (and her own) surprise, Holly turns out to be a natural in the gym, slimming down into a bona fide looker with killer curves—and a new kind of hunger. Before either of them can stop it, the easy intimacy of their training sessions leads to even more steamy workouts away from the gym.

But can a man whose whole life depends on looks commit himself to a woman who doesn’t fit his ideal? Now that Holly’s turning other men’s heads, does she even need Logan anymore? Are they a couple built to last . . . or destined to fizzle?

I absolutely adored reading Big Girl Panties. Perhaps it is because I am slightly overweight myself and could relate to some of the thoughts going through Holly's mind throughout the book. Or perhaps it was because this kind of romance seems too good to be true, yet you just can't help hoping for the best and cheering along the way.

Either way, the story of Holly and Logan was fabulous. I loved how Holly decided saying yes to Logan's help with losing weight kick starts her drive to better herself for a happier and healthier self. And then how their relationship slowly changes from trainer/client to hilarious friendship and finally so much more.

Logan is your typical good looking man with the thoughts that he had to be with a certain type of girl, yet never realizing that his relationships were also short lived and always with girls who lacked substance in the brains and character departments. He likes everything about Holly, but since she doesn't fit the mold he created for his "significant other" he doesn't let himself even think about being with her. It's interesting how he could do a 180 when it comes to his ideals about women.

Holly however goes into this relationship with the knowledge that it's just a fling and tries to accept that. Deep down she wants him to want her, yet she knows it probably won't work out. The adventures they get into both in the gym and in the bedroom as seriously something else. And I found myself cheering for Holly to win over Logan and for Logan to open up his mind to the possibilities. Holly has a big personality filled with sarcasm galore and she is charming and witty.

It's a feel good romance for full figured women. It's really the first book I've read with a fuller figured main character and I really look forward to more like this. It's truly a great story about body image that gives you a positive and inspiring look at self acceptance while providing just the right amount of humour.

And I'm dying to read the next book (which happens to a prequel), The Sweet Spot, which features two supporting characters from Big Girl Panties!

  1. I really liked this one too! And I didn't realize there was going to be a sequel/prequel. Interesting! Also, if you want more full figured ladies, check out Jennifer Weiner's books, particularly Good in Bed and whatever the next one after that is called.

  2. This sounds like my kind of romance (and something I'd love to see on the big screen!)! I'm so glad you loved it! Just from the way you describe the book, I'll bet the author is a hoot. :)
